After the film’s premiere, people started referring to it as the “theme song to the Exorcist.” The Mothman Prophecies is the second film. The music “Tubular Bells” by Mike Oldfield was only played in one scene and for a brief period of time in “The Exorcist,” yet it created an enduring impression on the audience. My two favorites immediately come to mind. Some movies stick out because of that one song that serves as capping or encapsulating moments. Whatever it is, it consistently hits the mark. Sometimes it seems to express honor, time passing, the loss of something significant, or even a sense of family closeness. The emotion it elicits each time it is played amazes me. The Godfather’s theme is a song that almost everyone can hum, and it appears frequently in the movie.

The Godfather’s score is essentially the benchmark for movie scores. Particularly, the background music for a fight between opposing gangs is “the Thieving Magpie.” That sequence was expertly timed and edited. This movie’s soundtrack complements the film incredibly well while also standing quite well on its own. Even though the soundtrack featured interpretations of extremely old composers like Beethoven, it was meant to appear futuristic. This Cello motif appears again throughout the film and is highly effective.Ī Clockwork Orange’s music is also excellent. The sentiment is one of isolation, helplessness, and sorrow. A single melancholy Cello begins to play as soon as the aerial image of the prison is initially displayed. Although the music is quite monotonous and sparse, it truly works great. The Shawshank Redemption’s soundtrack is one of my favorites.

There are many outstanding movie soundtracks full of hit songs that play well when listening to the CD alone. I’m not talking about soundtracks that enhance the mood of the visuals rather, I’m talking about soundtracks that complement the scenes of the movie and are supposed to do so. I particularly enjoy soundtracks that feature a recurring, intensely affecting, or eerie motif. I adore movies where the music perfectly complements the scenes.
